Upcoming! Special activities for Children & Adults with Strong Emotions and Challenging Behaviors

Safe and Sound and FOCUS Programs

Path of Life counseling is proud to be able to offer two home/office based programs.  We are planning to start a new group of interested families in September.  These programs last from 1 week to 60 weeks.  They can easily be integrated into a homeschool program or an evening ritual for the working adult.  The FOCUS Program includes physical activity using multi-modal input to help children/special needs adults learn better regulation and social behaviors.

One program is the Safe and Sound Protocol, designed by Stephen Porges.  It  works on the vagus nerve to move a person out of anxiety and depression and into the social engagement system.  It can take as little as 5 hours for some adults.  Children may need more time in the program, and may need to use all 3 portions of the SSP program.  The SSP is especially helpful for highly dysregulated nervous systems and adults or children who have experienced trauma.  There are individual and family plans available for up to 6 members for the SSP program.

The FOCUS program works well to help children or adults with any type of learning, speech/language/attentional, behavioral, and/or other neurological challenge.  This is a much longer program and requires parent involvement in four 30-minute sessions per week.  There are 4 different sections of this program and clients are evaluated to determine an appropriate starting place.  The FOCUS program supports connection/attachment between children and family members and is a nice option as a PE program for homeschool families.

There is a cost to the SSP program, but most of the FOCUS program can be billed by many insurance companies as “skills training” or family therapy.  There is also a cost for the equipment used in the FOCUS program.  However, families who have limited resources, may be able to borrow equipment for 3-month slots for a fee.

Please request information on these programs if you are interested in learning more.  You can email Melinda North @ rhopecounselemdrneurofeedback@gmail.com.  You can also connect with Colleen at Path of Life Counseling at 541-234-7421, or call 503-991-8319 for more information on the SSP and FOCUS home intervention programs.
